Veterans Memorial Park
Veterans Memorial Park in Durham serves as a solemn tribute to local military sacrifice and Canadian wartime history. The centerpiece is a magnificent 1922 granite monument topped with a bronze soldier, honoring the 36 Durham area soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Great War. Battle names are permanently engraved on the monument, preserving the memory of conflicts where these heroes served. A captured German 17 cm mittlerer Minenwerfer stands as a tangible reminder of Canadian military achievement overseas. The park's well-maintained grounds feature beautiful mature trees that provide peaceful shade for reflection and remembrance.
